About the Role

Co-op Academy Delius is seeking a reliable and skilled Caretaker to help maintain a safe, secure, and well-presented school environment that supports high-quality education for pupils with complex needs.

You will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the school site, ensuring buildings and grounds are maintained to a high standard and remain safe, clean, and fully operational.

Key Responsibilities

As Caretaker, you will:

Maintain the security, safety, and cleanliness of the school site
Carry out general maintenance, repairs, and DIY tasks (e.g. painting, decorating, basic repairs)
Support grounds maintenance and oversee site upkeep
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH and risk assessments
Act as a designated key holder and respond to site incidents when required
Liaise with contractors and ensure maintenance work is completed effectively
Oversee cleaning standards and support management of cleaning contracts
Order and manage cleaning and hygiene supplies
Support statutory compliance and routine site checks
Work closely with the Operations Manager and Senior Leadership Team

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Has previous experience in caretaking, site maintenance, or a similar role
Has practical DIY and general maintenance skills
Understands Health & Safety procedures and COSHH regulations (or is willing to learn)
Is reliable, punctual, and well-organised
Can work independently and as part of a team
Has a positive attitude and commitment to maintaining high standards
Communicates well and works professionally with staff, contractors, and visitors
Is committed to safeguarding and supporting a safe school environment

Desirable:

First Aid qualification
Facilities management or Health & Safety qualification

Safeguarding & Requirements

This role requires an enhanced DBS check and is subject to safeguarding procedures. The postholder must demonstrate commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

Applicants must also demonstrate fluency in English due to the customer-facing nature of the role.
