About Cancer Research UK

Millions of bargain hunters. Endless pre-loved items. One meaningful purpose.

At Cancer Research UK, our mission is simple: to beat cancer. Every day, our people work together to raise vital funds that support life-saving research, prevention and treatment.

We are looking for a motivated Retail Assistant to join our trading team at our Chelsea shop. In this role, you’ll help run the shop on Sundays, take on keyholder responsibilities and support our fantastic team of volunteers.

This is an opportunity to develop your retail and customer service skills while making a meaningful contribution to our work.

What you’ll be doing

As a Retail Sunday Assistant, you will:

  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the shop on Sundays, including keyholder duties. Full training will be provided.
  • Support and motivate a diverse team of volunteers.
  • Help the wider shop team achieve sales and fundraising targets.
  • Receive, review and process donated goods and new stock.
  • Use your creativity to identify new ways to generate income, with support from the Shop Manager.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and make customers and supporters feel welcome and valued.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, compliance, health and safety and shop presentation.
  • Carry out regular manual handling and other physical activities as part of the role.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Understands what excellent customer service looks like.
  • Has experience working in a busy, lively environment.
  • Can adapt confidently to changing situations.
  • Is comfortable working independently as well as as part of a team.
  • Has commercial awareness and an interest in achieving sales targets.
  • Builds positive relationships and communicates effectively with customers, volunteers and colleagues.
  • Is flexible and able to support the needs of the shop as part of a rota.

We understand that you have a life outside work, so while flexibility is important, we aim to balance the needs of our shops with those of our employees.

What you’ll receive

We want our people to feel supported and have opportunities to develop. You’ll have access to:

  • A generous benefits package.
  • A substantial retirement plan.
  • Generous and flexible leave.
  • Discounts across travel, technology, gym memberships and more.
  • Career and personal development opportunities.
  • High-quality tools, policies and processes to help you succeed.
  • Confidential wellbeing support through the Retail Trust.
