In this vital role, you will support individuals on their journey to recovery from substance misuse, delivering interventions, group work, and tailored support plans—all within a secure prison environment.
🔍 About the Role
As a Recovery Worker at HMP Wandsworth, you’ll play a crucial role in the delivery of psychosocial interventions for prisoners dealing with drug or alcohol misuse. You’ll help guide service users through assessments, recovery planning, and ongoing support, helping them rebuild their lives during and beyond incarceration.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Supporting service users from entry into the service through to recovery
- Conducting assessments and creating individualised recovery plans
- Delivering structured group sessions (e.g., anger management, sleep disorders, relationships)
- Promoting harm reduction and community safety
- Advocating for access to partner services
- Supporting social reintegration and promoting resilience and peer support
- Managing group dynamics and conflict effectively
- Participating in debriefs and evaluations with co-facilitators
👤 Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a compassionate, experienced individual with a passion for helping others. You should be proactive, emotionally resilient, and ready to work in a high-impact environment.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of experience working in substance misuse, mental health, or related fields
- Strong understanding of addiction, recovery, and harm reduction
- Experience delivering structured group work and managing group dynamics
- Excellent communication and IT skills
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage time independently
- Experience working in a secure environment or high-risk setting is a plus
- Understanding of data protection and information governance
- Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
