News Express, a busy off-licence and convenience store on Corporation Street in the heart of Birmingham, is looking for a friendly, reliable Shop Assistant to join the team.
Your role
You’ll support the daily running of the shop by giving customers great service, handling sales accurately and keeping the store clean, stocked and well presented.
What you’ll do
- Greet and help customers with questions and purchases
- Work the till, take cash and card payments, and give correct change and receipts
- Sell alcohol, cigarettes, tobacco and other age-restricted products in line with the law and store policy
- Check ID when needed and follow Challenge 25
- Restock shelves, fridges and displays with drinks, snacks, confectionery, newspapers and other essentials
- Receive deliveries, check stock and report anything damaged or missing
- Keep an eye on stock levels and product dates, and make sure goods are displayed properly
- Keep shelves, counters, floors and storage areas clean and tidy
- Handle complaints professionally and pass difficult situations to the manager
- Follow cash-handling, security and health and safety procedures
- Help with opening and closing when required and authorised
What we’re looking for
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy
- Basic numeracy and accurate cash handling
- Comfortable working alone and as part of a team
- Well organised, with an eye for detail and good time management
- Happy to work in a busy shop
- Knowledge of stock management and age-restricted sales is a bonus
